Roberto Firmino ‘appreciates God’ on Liverpool return

Roberto Firmino and Fabinho shared their joy at returning to Anfield to witness Liverpool’s dominant 4-2 victory over Newcastle United on New Year’s Day.

The Brazilian duo spent a collective 13 years at Liverpool, enjoying immense success including Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs during their tenure.

Following their summer departures, Firmino and Fabinho joined clubs in the Saudi Pro League – Fabinho moved to Al Ittihad alongside Karim Benzema, while Firmino joined Al Ahli alongside Riyad Mahrez.

Their recent visit marked their first return to Anfield since leaving Liverpool, where they watched the team secure a victory. Propelling them three points clear at the top of the Premier League.

Reflecting on their return in an interview with Liverpool’s official website. Firmino expressed his emotions, stating, “I’m incredibly happy to be back at home, here in Liverpool, especially at Anfield. I’m truly thankful to God for granting me these moments to watch the game. Even though I’m not playing, watching the game and seeing the boys is special.”

He added, “It’s always emotional to be here. The memories from our time here are unforgettable. We accomplished a lot together at the club, and that shared history will always remain in the records. We’re here to show our support.”

Since Fabinho and Firmino’s departure, Liverpool have been active in the transfer market, especially in reshaping their starting lineup.

Over the summer, the Reds made significant moves to fill the void left by Fabinho in midfield. Adding four new midfielders to the squad – Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Wataru Endo.

Discussing these new signings, Fabinho expressed his admiration for their swift adaptation to the team’s style and their performances on the field.

“It’s crucial for the team that the new arrivals have quickly adjusted to playing good football and have integrated well into the squad,” said Fabinho.

“Players like Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Endo are showing real promise. Their contributions are significant as the team lost some key players. I believe they are doing a commendable job.”

He added, “Though Thiago isn’t playing regularly at the moment, his experience is invaluable. He helps these players a lot – he communicates effectively and guides them. The newcomers have been really impressive.”
