Erik ten Hag Hints at ‘Five or Six New Additions’ for Manchester United in the January Transfer Window

“The Red Devils have faced challenges in the ongoing 2023/24 season, contending with an injury crisis that has affected several high-profile teams.

Many key players from their previous starting lineup have experienced time on the sidelines, including summer signing Mason Mount, who has been limited to 626 minutes due to a calf problem.

Speaking at a press conference before United’s upcoming clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Ten Hag expressed anticipation for the second half of the season as key players are poised to make their returns.

“I think we are very optimistic,” Ten Hag stated. “With players returning and a bit of luck on our side regarding injuries, it’s like having five or six new signings in January.”

“In addition to Mason Mount, the return of key players like Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, and Harry Maguire is anticipated in the coming weeks, providing valuable reinforcements for Ten Hag’s squad.

However, goalkeeper Andre Onana will be absent as he joins Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations. Summer signing Altay Bayindir is expected to step in during Onana’s absence.

Addressing Onana’s absence, Ten Hag mentioned, “I never talk in ‘if,’ but we are prepared for this. We constructed the squad so that we are prepared for this scenario. When we have news, we will let you know.”

As United kicks off 2024 with an FA Cup third-round fixture against Wigan Athletic, followed by a Premier League clash at home against top-four rivals Tottenham Hotspur, the return of key players and strategic squad planning are crucial elements for their upcoming challenges.”
