Real Madrid establishes a ‘deadline’ for Kylian Mbappe’s 2024 transfer.

Real Madrid has given Kylian Mbappe a deadline to decide on his future by mid-January if he intends to join the club.

The French forward’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends in six months, allowing him to talk to overseas teams from January onwards.

Despite Madrid’s long-standing interest in Mbappe, there’s concern within the club due to his previous decision to stay at PSG. Back in 2022, Mbappe seemed set to move to Spain but surprised many by signing a significant new contract with PSG instead.

Reportedly, Real Madrid officials have informed Mbappe that he needs to make a firm choice about his future by the middle of January. If he doesn’t commit to joining Madrid, the club plans to focus on other transfer targets.

One major issue for Madrid could be meeting Mbappe’s financial expectations. The club is cautious about offering extravagant salaries that could disrupt their existing wage structure. Therefore, they might caution Mbappe that he might need to turn down higher offers elsewhere if he genuinely desires to switch to Real Madrid.

Additionally, reports suggest that Mbappe gave up a €80 million loyalty bonus from PSG by confirming he wouldn’t extend his contract beyond 2024. This decision indicates his intention to leave PSG after his current deal expires.

The 25-year-old Mbappe has reportedly indicated to PSG that he doesn’t intend to extend his contract. However, there’s a sense in France that Real Madrid might not agree to Mbappe’s wage demands, leading to the possibility of him considering another extension with PSG.

During the last summer transfer window, Mbappe turned down an opportunity to engage in talks with Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal. Despite PSG accepting a significant €300 million bid for him after listing him for transfer.

Conversations between Mbappe and PSG officials resulted in his return to the first team. But his previous stance has provided Real Madrid with confidence that a deal might still be possible.

Looking ahead, Madrid has plans for other signings in the upcoming summer, with potential interest in left-back Alphonso Davies from Bayern Munich. Therefore, they are reluctant to spend time pursuing Mbappe if he isn’t fully committed to joining the club.
