Chelsea’s string of injuries persists as midfielder Romeo Lavia endured an injury setback within the first 30 minutes of his debut against Crystal Palace.
The summer signing, valued at £58 million ($74m), finally took the field as a second-half substitute in Chelsea’s hard-fought 2-1 victory on Wednesday night.
Despite Lavia contributing to the win, manager Mauricio Pochettino expressed post-match worries about a potential injury to the Belgian. According to information from DiMarzio’s Nathan Gissing, it is believed that the issue revolves around the midfielder’s thigh.
“I’m a little bit worried about Romeo Lavia,” Pochettino expressed concern to reporters post-match.. “He finished with some issues, but I hope it’s not a big issue.”
Another period of absence for Lavia would be disappointing for the player and add to Chelsea’s woes in a season marked by injuries.
The midfielder’s debut, coupled with summer signing Christopher Nkunku’s initial start, provided a positive note following the recent setback of losing captain Reece James for an extended period.
Pochettino is eagerly awaiting updates from the club’s medical staff after the assessment of Lavia’s thigh.
The Blues face a swift turnaround in the midst of the bustling festive schedule, heading to Luton Town on Saturday.
Luton, led in part by the resurgence of former Chelsea player Ross Barkley, has proven to be a resilient opponent, making the upcoming match a challenging one for Chelsea.
