Despite guiding England to the World Cup semi-finals and the Euro final, Southgate has faced mixed reviews for his team’s performances against top international sides.

While his sole Premier League managerial experience resulted in relegation with Middlesbrough in 2009, Southgate, in conversation with Jose Mourinho, expressed openness to managing a top club, emphasizing that his England tenure has prepared him for any challenge in the football world.

Erik ten Hag and Mauricio Pochettino are facing scrutiny at Manchester United and Chelsea, and as the managerial landscape evolves in 2024, other top Premier League clubs may also be in search of new leadership.

Reflecting on a conversation with Jose Mourinho during his time at Manchester United, Southgate shared, “I remember talking to Jose when he was at Man United, and he said, ‘you know, when you’ve done the role you’re in now, you’ll be able to do anything.’ Really? I thought that was probably right, but seven years into it, it’s definitely right.”
