Chelsea’s Strategic Move: Exploring a £156 Million Double Transfer Swoop in Portugal

Chelsea is said to be planning a double transfer move worth £156 million, with one of the targeted players having competed in the Championship last season.

Anticipating the January transfer window, Chelsea, under Todd Boehly’s ownership, is set to continue its significant spending spree, having already invested over £1 billion in new players.

Chelsea, faced with limited activity in the mid-season transfer window, is reportedly eyeing a £156 million double swoop for Sporting duo Ousmane Diomande and Viktor Gyokeres, according to The Evening Standard.

Both players recently joined the Portuguese club, with Diomande arriving in January and Gyokeres making the move from Coventry in the summer. Sporting values Diomande, a center-back who left Midtjylland for £6.5 million, at £69 million, reflecting a revaluation of the 20-year-old asset.

Chelsea’s initial attempt faced resistance from Sporting, who is holding firm on their asking price, especially since 20% of the transfer fee is earmarked for the player’s former club.

Negotiations are also in progress for Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, who made a £17 million transfer to Sporting from Coventry after last season’s Championship play-off final. Despite previous interest from Premier League clubs, the 25-year-old opted for a move to Europe, but a return to England in January is now a possibility.

Chelsea has been quoted a price of £87 million for the striker, who boasts 17 goals and eight assists in 20 appearances this season.
