Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Mason Greenwood, currently on loan from Manchester United.
Following his outstanding performance for Getafe in their thrilling 3-3 draw against Diego Simeone’s side, the 22-year-old winger played a crucial role in Getafe’s comeback, helping Getafe earn a hard fought draw at the Wanda Metropolitano.
His performance received praises, with Atletico star Antoine Griezmann acknowledging that Greenwood had a significant impact on the match.
Following his remarkable performance at the Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid is reportedly interested in securing a move for Mason Greenwood in the summer of 2024, as per Mundo Deportivo.
The Red and Whites may face competition from Barcelona and Real Madrid, as well as Greenwood’s current club, Getafe, who aim to make the player’s loan move from Manchester United permanent next year.
The English forward has featured in 15 matches for Getafe since his loan move in the summer, making a significant impact with five goals and four assists to his name.
Despite having a contract with Manchester United until 2027, the club is unlikely to recall Mason Greenwood from his loan at Getafe.
United faces the prospect of losing a significant portion of the transfer fee if they decide to sell the player, as there is a sell-on clause in Greenwood’s loan deal. Getafe has the advantage of paying only 80% of any agreed price, and if Greenwood is sold to another club, Getafe will still earn 20% of the transfer fee.
