Sergio Aguero, a Manchester City legend, recently revealed that neither Arsenal nor Liverpool are the biggest challengers for his former club this season. Instead, he surprisingly pointed out that Manchester United could potentially contend for the title.

“You can never sleep on Man United at this stage of the season,” Aguero told Stake.com.

“They are one of the biggest threats to Man City’s Premier League title.” I also think Tottenham are title contenders, who have improved a lot under Ange Postecoglou.

“Even despite their ups and downs, Newcastle are also in with a chance of the title as they always put up a fight.”

Currently, City holds the fourth spot in the Premier League after a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace, where they lost a two-goal lead at the Etihad Stadium. Despite being champions, they now sit five points behind league leaders Arsenal, contending for a spot in the top-four.

Aguero’s assessment highlighted Tottenham, just one point behind City, and Newcastle, trailing by five points, as other clubs in contention. However, the unexpected mention of Manchester United as potential title contenders stood out among his observations.

Manchester United currently sits at seventh place in the Premier League. Trailing by 11 points from the top and six behind Manchester City. Under Erik ten Hag’s management, they haven’t secured a victory against teams ranked higher than them this season. The club faces substantial challenges on and off the field, especially after their recent exit from the Champions League.

Despite these struggles, they managed to halt their slump with a surprising 0-0 draw against Liverpool. A match many expected United to lose convincingly.

Aguero’s suggestion that United could contend for the title might seem unlikely, but this season’s Premier League race looks notably competitive. Apart from Arsenal and Liverpool securing top-four positions.

Aston Villa is making a strong push and could potentially top the table when they face Sheffield United. Nonetheless, Manchester City’s squad depth positions them as favorites to win the title for the fourth consecutive year.

Even with a slight dip in their performance, City remains one of the strongest teams in the league. Arsenal, Liverpool, and United would need remarkable performances to surpass them in the title race.
