The game was halted after Lockyer, 29, collapsed shortly after halftime with the score tied at 1-1. The defender, who previously collapsed during last season’s Championship play-off final, was carried off the field on a stretcher.

A Luton statement confirmed, “Our medical staff have confirmed that the Hatters captain suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher.

He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides. Tom was transferred to the hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside. We would like to thank everyone for their support, concern, and loving messages for Locks.”

Both sets of players were led off the field shortly after Lockyer’s collapse, and it was later announced, after approximately half an hour, that they would not resume the game.

Luton expressed apologies to the supporters present, explaining that players from both teams were not in the right state of mind to continue the game after witnessing their teammate taken off in such a condition. The staff also couldn’t manage the game given the circumstances.

The statement mentioned there’s no information about when or if the game will be replayed or resumed from the point where Saturday’s match was halted.
