Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has conveyed the preparedness of the Super Eagles to contend for the top prize in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 34th edition of AFCON is scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
The Super Eagles, one of the 23 participating nations, aim to challenge the reigning champions, Senegal’s Terangha Lions, for the coveted title.
Under the guidance of Jose Peseiro, the Nigerian team is poised to pursue a fourth AFCON victory in Cote d’Ivoire, aiming to replicate their previous successes in lifting the trophy four times.
Osimhen, honored as the Men’s Player of the Year at the 2023 CAF Awards on Monday in Marrakech, Morocco, exudes confidence in the Super Eagles’ ability to clinch the title, expressing optimism that they can outperform other teams.
“We are fully prepared and undergoing thorough preparations,” Osimhen shared with CAF Media.
“The squad is in high spirits. We are raring to go and hope that we shall do well there.”
Drawn in Group A alongside Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau, the Super Eagles are set to kick off their campaign against fellow West Africans, Equatorial Guinea, at the Alhassan Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan on January 14.
