FIFA Reveals Finalists for Best Women’s and Men’s Coach Awards

Sarina Wiegman, the manager of England Women, and Pep Guardiola from Manchester City are among the nominees shortlisted for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach and The Best FIFA Men’s Coach awards in 2023.

FIFA has revealed the six finalists for each category.

In the Women’s Coach award, Wiegman contends with Emma Hayes, the manager of Chelsea Women, and Jonatan Giraldez from Barcelona Femeni.

For the Men’s Coach award, Pep Guardiola faces competition from Italian coaches Simone Inzaghi and Luciano Spalletti.

Wiegman, aiming for a record fourth Women’s Coach award, previously won in 2017, 2020, and 2022.

The Dutch national had a remarkable year as England’s manager in 2023, leading the Lionesses to their first FIFA Women’s World Cup final, ultimately losing to Spain in Australia.

Hayes, a former award recipient, secures her spot on the shortlist through another successful double-winning season with Chelsea.

Giraldez earns his inaugural nomination for guiding Barcelona Femini to a historic UEFA Champions League triumph in the 2022/23 season.

Guardiola is poised as the frontrunner for the Best FIFA Men’s Coach award, following Man City’s remarkable treble-winning season.

Despite his past successes, including a second-place finish in 2019, Guardiola has never clinched the top spot in previous award voting.

Competing against Coppa Italia winner and Champions League finalist Inzaghi, along with Spalletti, who led Napoli to their first Scudetto in over three decades, Guardiola aims for the prestigious prize.

The award winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on January 15, 2024, marking the third time the event takes place in the English capital.
