Stanley Nwabili, the Chippa United goalkeeper, hopes to secure a spot in Nigeria’s roster for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, TalkFooty.com.ng reports.
The 27-year-old has garnered attention with his outstanding performances for South African club Chippa United this season.
The goalkeeper has kept six clean sheets in 12 league outings, conceding only 10 goals for the South African club this season.
“Nwabili’s exceptional performance has garnered attention, with Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro monitoring his progress.
Peseiro recently visited Chippa United’s training ground to meet with the former Enyimba goalkeeper.
Nwabili is determined to secure a spot in Nigeria’s squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
I wish to get a call-up but it’s not compulsory. It’s not by my performance because everyone is doing well in different clubs, other goalkeepers have been doing well in their clubs,” he told iDiski Times.
“If you are called up to your national team, kudos to you but I wish to represent my own country. I wish to wear my country’s jersey. I wish to wear it again.
“I went there before and I wish to wear it again in a nice tournament. That’s my wish.”
Nwabili has earned just one cap for the Super Eagles.
