In early 2019, Anthony Martial inked a deal set to expire in June 2024, with an optional extension until 2025—an often-utilized feature at Manchester United.
However, reliable sources suggest the likelihood of triggering this extension for Martial is minimal. The player himself seems prepared to acknowledge that his tenure with the club is approaching its conclusion.
Since his impressive debut in 2015, following a notable £36m plus add-ons transfer from Monaco, the Frenchman has grappled with fitness and form challenges since 2020.
Despite a promising 2019/20 season where he netted 23 times across all competitions, Martial has struggled to replicate that success.
His goal tally hasn’t hit double figures in the past three seasons, currently standing at two goals in 19 appearances midway through 2023/24. Even a 2022 loan spell at Sevilla failed to reignite his top form.
Decisions regarding Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof’s futures are still pending, mirroring Anthony Martial’s situation. Both players share a contract set to expire in 2024, featuring an option for a 12-month extension.
It’s a nuanced situation for the defensive duo, and they maintain optimism about a potential future at Manchester United beyond this season.
Meanwhile, Hannibal Mejbri, whose contract expires next year, is anticipated to have his 12-month option activated. Ongoing discussions for a more extended deal beyond 2025 have already commenced.
Despite turning 21 in January, Hannibal has showcased his talent with seven first-team appearances this season under Erik ten Hag. His notable goal against Brighton in September and his crowd-inspiring efforts at Old Trafford have earned him praise.
Expected to represent Tunisia in the Africa Cup of Nations after Christmas, Hannibal will be absent from club action for a few weeks. With 27 senior international appearances and a previous World Cup selection, Hannibal Mejbri continues to be a promising midfield talent.
