Bayern Munich faced a shocking defeat, losing 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
After falling behind 1-0 to Omar Marmoush’s goal in the 12th minute, Bayern Munich experienced further setbacks as Junior Dina Ebimbe and Hugo Larsson extended Eintracht Frankfurt’s lead to 3-0 shortly after the half-hour mark.
Joshua Kimmich managed to score one for Bayern before halftime, but Frankfurt added two more goals in the second half, sealing a remarkable 5-1 victory.
For the first time in 19 years, Bayern Munich faced a rapid 3-0 deficit, reminiscent of the 2004 match against Werder Bremen where they were down 3-0 after 35 minutes.
This result marks a moment of embarrassment for Thomas Tuchel’s side, experiencing their first league defeat of the season and trailing leaders Bayer Leverkusen by three points.
Frankfurt has achieved a remarkable feat, becoming the first team since 1975 to score five goals against Bayern Munich within the first 60 minutes of a league match.
Interestingly, Frankfurt was also the last team to accomplish this milestone against the Bavarians.
Bayern Munich aims for a swift recovery as they shift focus to the upcoming midweek Champions League clash against Manchester United. The English side needs a victory against the already-qualified German team to keep their hopes of progression alive.
