Having scored an impressive 30 goals across all competitions last season, Rashford has faced a dip in form recently, finding the net only twice in the ongoing 2023/24 season.
Notably, he was excluded from the starting lineup for the first time this season during the high-pressure clash against Chelsea at Old Trafford.
Addressing Rashford’s situation, Ten Hag emphasized his belief in the player’s talent, stating, “Rashford is an incredibly good player.
He is not in the form he was last year, but I am sure he will get back.” Drawing parallels with previous instances involving players like Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire, the United boss highlighted that selection is based on consistent performance and output.
Ten Hag explained, “I said the same thing about Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire, it is up to them. Every week, the team will line up in training, and the best players will form the best team and they will play.”
McTominay and Maguire appeared poised to depart Old Trafford in the summer, seemingly excluded from Ten Hag’s plans.
However, both have made a remarkable resurgence, significantly impacting the team. Maguire, in particular, secured the November Premier League Player of the Month award.
McTominay, a consistent starter since his crucial goals against Brentford, showcased his importance with a standout performance against Chelsea.
In the absence of Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony delivered impressive performances on the flanks against Chelsea.
