Santos supporters expressed their frustration and disappointment by setting players’ cars on fire and causing chaos in the streets after the club’s historic relegation from Brazil’s top tier.
The renowned club, notable for Pele’s era from 1956 to 1974, faced a devastating blow as they fell 2-1 to Fortaleza in the final match of the Brazilian Serie A.
Despite slipping into the relegation zone with a winless streak in their last five games, a victory could have secured their survival.
Unfortunately, a 96th-minute goal by Juan Martin Lucero shattered Santos’ hopes, leaving them relegated.
Angry fans in the port city expressed their emotions through rioting, setting multiple cars on fire, including one belonging to Santos forward Stiven Mendoza.
The aftermath of the defeat saw black smoke billowing from various parts of the city, reflecting the intensity of the fans’ frustration and disappointment.
