Antony Hits Out at Social Media Critics for ‘Ruining Lives’

The 24-year-old, signed for £85m in the summer of 2022, has faced challenges in finding consistent form since arriving at Old Trafford.

In the current season, the Brazilian winger has yet to register a goal or an assist in 15 appearances, bringing his total goal contributions to six (four goals and two assists) over 35 career Premier League outings.

Antony has become a target of criticism on social media from both former players and supporters, reflecting the broader struggles of several United players.

The team has experienced ten defeats across all competitions, currently sits seventh in the Premier League, and occupies the bottom spot in their Champions League group.

Speaking to independent fan channel The United Stand, Antony expressed frustration with social media criticism: “The ‘digital court’ is ruining lives – contexts are left aside, and the truth no longer matters.

I am silently rebuilding myself and believe I will overcome these challenges, having always fought hard for my achievements. Those who criticize unfairly, I wonder how they would fare in my place.”

Antony didn’t mince words when addressing pundits and former United players who consistently criticize his performances, highlighting the lack of constructive feedback that adds to the prevailing negativity.

Expressing his frustration, Antony remarked, “Former club players and media figures express opinions that influence thousands of fans, even when I’m not on the field.

Yet, I’ve never seen them provide constructive criticism that would help me grow as a professional. None of them has reached out to inquire about my well-being, especially during this challenging period.”

Regarding United’s season performance, Antony aimed to shift blame away from under-pressure manager Erik ten Hag, stating, “The season hasn’t gone as well as we hoped, but we faced challenges with numerous injured players, essential components in Ten Hag’s strategy.

With the return of some key players, we anticipate improvement in both our game and results.”
