Formerly a youth player at Bayern Munich, Moerstedt is poised for his first-team breakthrough at Hoffenheim. Turning 18 in January and already making a mark at the junior international level, he’s acknowledged by the Bundesliga side for his immense potential.
Despite his youth, the 6’4 tall teenage sensation embodies the classic ‘number nine’ archetype.
Notably, Moerstedt’s standout performances at the recently concluded Under-17 World Cup in Indonesia, which Germany triumphed in, drew the attention of several potential suitors. Scoring four goals in the tournament, he also confidently converted a penalty during the final shootout against France.
Manchester United and Chelsea scouts have expressed admiration, while Brighton & Hove Albion, known for nurturing young talent, are also keen. It’s not limited to the Premier League, as Juventus and Atalanta are closely monitoring Moerstedt.
Before representing Germany’s youth team in Indonesia, Moerstedt showcased his prowess with Hoffenheim’s Under-19, tallying ten goals in nine league games. Notable achievements include a four-goal feat against Heidenheim, a hat-trick against Kaiserslautern, and a goal with an assist in a victory over former club Bayern Munich. Additionally, he netted twice in a cup match against Borussia Dortmund.
Having excelled with Hoffenheim’s Under-17 squad, contributing to 16 goals in 11 appearances, Moerstedt earned a mid-season promotion to the Under-19 level. Another promotion, this time to the first-team level, appears imminent as the season progresses.
