Manchester United is on the verge of Sir Jim Ratcliffe obtaining a 25% stake in the club, and sources suggest an official announcement is expected in the coming week.
For more than a year, the Glazer family has entertained takeover and investment proposals at Old Trafford.
The prolonged narrative has seen various developments, and now Sir Jim Ratcliffe, a lifelong Manchester United supporter and Britain’s wealthiest individual, is poised to proceed with a £1.25 billion ($1.6bn) share acquisition.
The Independent reports that the agreement is anticipated to be finalized before the upcoming busy festive period.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to have reached a compromise with the Glazers, potentially paving the way for a future full takeover bid.
At one point, Qatari businessman Sheikh Jassim was a contender, but he grew disheartened with the prolonged discussions and decisions. He officially withdrew his offer on October 14.
In the current scenario, Sir Jim Ratcliffe is poised to secure a minority stake, accompanied by substantial control over football operations.
Reports suggest that Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ready to allocate £245 million ($310 million) for enhancements to the club’s infrastructure.
Meanwhile, personnel changes are reportedly underway behind the scenes at Manchester United.
The club is gearing up for significant spending in the January transfer window following an inconsistent start to the 2023-24 season in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
