Brentford is gearing up for a renewed effort to sign PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko in the upcoming January transfer window, according to sources.
Despite a previous rejection in the summer of 2023 when Bakayoko turned down a £34m bid to pursue Champions League ambitions with PSV, Brentford is determined to make another audacious move.
The 20-year-old, also on Liverpool’s radar as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah, is attracting interest from various top clubs. While many see Bakayoko as a summer 2024 target, Brentford aims to get ahead of the competition with an early January bid.
Brentford is prepared to break its club-record with a bid exceeding £30m to secure PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko in the January transfer window.
However, Bakayoko’s mid-season move is uncertain, given PSV’s top position in Eredivisie and their impressive Champions League performance.
With an outstanding record of four goals and 14 assists in 24 games this season, Bakayoko is likely to be a key player for Belgium in Euro 2024.
Brentford, coping well despite injuries to key players, anticipates challenges with the potential absence of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa in January due to the Africa Cup of Nations.”
