Erling Haaland might be subjected to an FA charge for using social media to express dissatisfaction with referee Simon Hooper after the thrilling 3-3 draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Haaland received a yellow card for dissent on the field when he expressed frustration after referee Simon Hooper did not allow advantage following a foul on him by Emerson Royal, with Jack Grealish in a promising position to attack in added time.
In a fit of anger, Haaland engaged in a confrontation with Spurs midfielder Giovani Lo Celso as he exited the pitch.
His frustration extended to social media, where he posted ‘WTF’ (an abbreviation for “What The F—k”) along with an image of the incident on X.
In response to questions about Haaland’s reaction after the game, City manager Guardiola characterized it as a normal response.
“Even the referee, if he played for Manchester City, would be disappointed with that action. It is difficult when you review the image. The referee decides to blow the whistle after he has already indicated to play on. After the pass, the whistle, so I do not understand this action. I will not make a comment like Mikel Arteta.”
City have now drawn their last three Premier League games, including a 4-4 result against Chelsea and a 1-1 draw against Liverpool. The treble winners are currently three points behind league leaders Arsenal in the standings.
