Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino believes it’s “unfair” to assess record signing Moises Caicedo prematurely, considering the midfielder’s emotional journey during the summer transfer saga.
Despite being a regular starter, Caicedo has yet to showcase the form that made him highly sought after at his previous club, Brighton & Hove Albion.
Pochettino emphasizes that Chelsea anticipated this adjustment period and expresses confidence that, with time and patience, the 22-year-old will fulfill his potential.
“When we signed him, we knew what is going to happen. He’s an emotional guy, an emotional player that needs time to recover,” Pochettino explained.
The coach acknowledges the challenges, including international commitments and travel, impacting Caicedo’s adaptation. Pochettino has taken a supportive approach, emphasizing the importance of giving time and avoiding unfair judgments in evaluating the player’s performance.
Highlighting the communication advantage due to a shared language, Pochettino revealed a 20-minute private conversation with Caicedo during the week.
He underscores the significance of mental clarity and physical well-being for footballers to express their talent, acknowledging the absence of a preseason for Caicedo. Pochettino emphasizes the multifaceted nature of a footballer’s journey, encompassing the physical, mental, and talent aspects.
