Manchester City and the Premier League have scheduled a preliminary trial date for late Autumn 2024 as they gear up for a legal showdown concerning the 115 charges leveled against the reigning European champions.

Following an extensive investigation, the Premier League accused City of numerous financial breaches dating back to the 2009/10 season—a series of allegations vehemently denied by the club, who have expressed their determination to challenge them.

While the football community eagerly awaits the next phase of the legal proceedings, the Daily Mail reports that City and the Premier League won’t appear in court to discuss the allegations until late 2024.

A resolution to the entire ordeal is anticipated towards the conclusion of the 2024/25 season, with the possibility of further delays should there be an appeal against the final verdict.

The investigation is reportedly in the process of gathering witness statements, indicating that there is substantial groundwork to be completed before the case proceeds to court.

Criticism has arisen regarding the pace of the Premier League’s proceedings against City, particularly when contrasted with Everton’s recent punishment for Financial Fair Play violations.

Everton faced charges in March 2023, a month after City’s allegations became public, and received a 10-point deduction for a single breach of financial rules earlier this month. This outcome has prompted speculation about the potential severity of any sanctions against City for their 115 alleged breaches.

City manager Pep Guardiola has maintained that the two cases are incomparable and has expressed his commitment to staying with the team even if they were to receive a points deduction, potentially leading to participation in League One.
