Video footage recently surfaced showing Andre Onana’s emotional state following Manchester United’s draw with Galatasaray, making it a difficult watch.
Manchester United’s aspirations in the Champions League suffered a setback against the Turkish team in a thrilling 3-3 draw on Wednesday.
Under Erik ten Hag’s management, the team seemed on track for a victory after goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes secured a 2-0 lead within the first 20 minutes.
However, a free-kick by Hakim Ziyech just before the half-hour mark appeared to catch Onana off guard, leading to a tense conclusion to the first half.
Scott McTominay extended United’s lead shortly after halftime, but Onana experienced another mishap from a Ziyech free-kick, allowing the ball to slip through his gloves and into the net.
Kerem Akturkoglu completed the comeback ten minutes later, leaving United in need of a miraculous outcome in matchday six to secure qualification for the knockout stages.
Subsequent footage has surfaced showing Onana visibly distraught at the end of the game. He threw his gloves to the ground in frustration before covering his face with his hands.
Manager Erik ten Hag refrained from pointing fingers at his goalkeeper, expressing after the match, “We win and lose together. He [Onana] is okay. It is not about individuals.”
He continued, “Individual errors in football can make a difference, and you take responsibility for it, but it is always about the team.”
“All the players in this squad deserve to play for Manchester United because they are brilliant players.
“We are very happy with our keeper group. They do very well and have good performances. They have to push each other.”
