Bruno Fernandes Responds to Criticism Over Rashford Penalty Decision

Bruno Fernandes has justified his choice to hand over penalty duties to Marcus Rashford in Manchester United’s victory against Everton.

Bruno Fernandes allowed Rashford the opportunity to score his first goal for the Red Devils since September, and the forward successfully converted in the 3-0 win at Goodison Park.

Fernandes, facing criticism from Man Utd legend Roy Keane, responded to the backlash, stating, ‘I have to do what I think is the best for my team.’

Perhaps I’m not always making the right decisions, but in the moment, I believe it’s the right choice, and I stand by it. Criticism is part of playing for Manchester United, whether you do well or poorly, right or wrong. Since my arrival at the club, it’s been normal.

In the beginning, everything was perfect, as any deviation from the norm was praised. However, I understand that challenges arise when results and performances fall short of expectations, which are always high.

I’m open to everyone, and so far, no one has had an issue with my leadership. I believe in maintaining this approach, as everyone seems content with my leadership.

Regarding the decision to let Marcus take the penalty, I felt he needed a boost in confidence and a goal. Marcus is an excellent penalty taker, and I was confident he could convert it perfectly. The focus is on scoring, and Marcus executed it perfectly.

Erik ten Hag appointed Bruno Fernandes as the captain during the summer after removing Harry Maguire from the captaincy. Since assuming the role, Fernandes has featured in every Premier League game, contributing to six goals in the process.
