Manchester City orchestrated a remarkable second-half turnaround, clinching a 3-2 victory over RB Leipzig and securing the top spot in their Champions League group.
Despite deploying a formidable lineup, Pep Guardiola witnessed his team’s challenging first half, with Lois Openda putting Leipzig two goals ahead.
However, City staged a comeback in the second half, as Erling Haaland and Phil Foden found the net to level the score.
A late winner from substitute Alvarez sealed City’s passage to the knockout stages as group winners.
Early ambitious volleys from Bernardo Silva and Manuel Akanji set the tone, with Leipzig’s Xavi Simons missing a chance wide. Leipzig took the lead through Lois Openda’s clinical finish, exploiting route-one play.
Despite Ruben Dias’s missed header, City struggled in the final third, with Rico Lewis squandering an opportunity. Openda extended Leipzig’s lead on the counter before halftime.
City changed tactics in the second half, introducing Doku and Alvarez. Haaland’s goal and Foden’s composed equalizer shifted the momentum. Although Carvalho had a disallowed goal, Alvarez secured the win with a late tap-in, earning City a well-deserved three points.
