Mbappe’s Late Controversial Penalty Crushes Newcastle’s Victory Dreams Against PSG

Newcastle United delivered an outstanding performance against Paris Saint-Germain, but a last-minute penalty from Kylian Mbappe secured a 1-1 draw for the French side on Tuesday night.

Despite PSG’s brilliant start, Newcastle took the lead in the French capital. Gianluigi Donnarumma deflected Miguel Almiron’s shot into the path of Alexander Isak, who confidently struck from close range, granting the Magpies the lead as they headed into halftime.

Despite numerous opportunities created by PSG in the second half, it took a controversial 98th-minute penalty from Mbappe to thwart Newcastle’s hopes of a memorable victory in Paris.

Eddie Howe maintained an unchanged lineup from the weekend’s triumph over Chelsea due to persistent injuries, understanding that a defeat at the Parc des Princes would eliminate Newcastle from the Champions League.

Despite a threatening start from PSG, Nick Pope’s save denied Mbappe’s near-post attempt early on. While the hosts dominated, Isak missed a golden opportunity for Newcastle shortly after the ten-minute mark.

However, Isak redeemed himself in the 25th minute. Almiron’s goal-bound effort, courtesy of Livramento’s promising play, was parried by Donnarumma into Isak’s path, and the striker made no mistake, firing into an empty net.

Though the crowd remained lively, Luis Enrique’s players were subdued by Newcastle’s opener. Pope thwarted half-chances for PSG, maintaining the Magpies’ lead at halftime.

PSG struggled to find momentum early in the second half, but Dembele created a major opening, only to be denied by Pope. As the pressure mounted, PSG missed a clear chance for an equalizer with 25 minutes to play.

Despite several penalty appeals, a late, controversial spot-kick was awarded to PSG in the eighth minute of stoppage time, striking Livramento’s arm. Despite the harsh decision, Mbappe converted to salvage a draw, leaving Newcastle disheartened.
