Despite there being hopes of Real Madrid star David Alaba returning to fitness in time for tomorrow’s La Liga clash against CA Osasuna, that does not appear to be the case.
Alaba picked up an injury during Los Blancos’ league clash against Las Palmas last week and has since gone on to miss two matches already versus Girona and Napoli.
The Austrian international had been pushing hard to make a return for Saturday’s game against Osasuna and had even participated in a few training sessions.
Alaba to miss Osasuna game
However, as per the latest update from journalist Jose Luis Sanchez, Alaba will not be able to make it for the game against Osasuna at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.
The Austrian international was not seen in training with the team today and as such he is expected to miss out of tomorrow’s clash against Jagoba Arrasate’s side.
With Alaba pretty much certain to miss out and Nacho unavailable due to suspension, Ferland Mendy could be slotted in as an emergency centre-back alongside Antonio Rudiger tomorrow.
When will Alaba return?
The report further states that Alaba will now be withdrawn from the Austrian national team squad for the upcoming international break.
The versatile defender was named on the squad list for Austria’s UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers against Belgium and Azerbaijan, but is now likely to be dropped.
As such, the plan is for him to return to action against Sevilla soon after the international break. Minutes against Sevilla and SC Braga could help him return to peak fitness in time for the Clasico vs Barcelona.
Meanwhile, Arda Guler is also expected to return after the international break, with the youngster having resumed training on the grass, albeit by himself.
