The Saudi Pro League continues to eye Inter and, after an attempt to lure Nicolò Barella, Al-Hilal have set their sights on Simone Inzaghi, who’s widely expected to ink a richer and longer extension at the end of the season, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs (via Tuttomercatoweb).
Emissaries of the Middle Eastern team were in Milan earlier this week. They might lose Jorge Jesus, who’s one of the premier candidates to take over Brazil following Dorival Junior’s resignation. They wish to have an high-end manager in the upcoming Club World Cup.
Al-Hilal could offer up to €20M per year to Inzaghi to convince him to jump ship, but it’d be a major surprise if their courtship came even close to being successful.
Inter president Giuseppe Marotta reiterated that there wouldn’t be issues in the negotiation with the boss in an interview with Sky.
“I’ll be a formality. He has one more year on his contract after this season, but it’s right for a coach not to be on an expiring deal. We’ll sit down with him when the campaign is over, but it’ll be a quick and pleasant meeting like in the past. We’ll reach an agreement very serenely. He’s a young manager, but he has already accumulated plenty of values and qualities. Especially, he’s a winner, or at least he always pursues victories.”
Our Take on Inzaghi and Al-Hilal
It won’t happen, but it surely doesn’t hurt to have deep-pocketed suitors while bargaining a contract extension. Unlike in previous instances, the Nerazzurri should aim for a longer contract, as every reservation is moot at his point, and his rate will only go up.
