United are reportedly edging closer to signing Inter’s Onana after more talk between the clubs.

Indeed, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano claimed on Thursday that a compromise on an initial fee for the Cameroonian had been reached and that a final agreement between all parties was “expected”.

“Manchester United are now closing in on Andre Onana deal as final verbal proposal has been made during talks today,” tweeted Romano.

“Understand it’s €50m (£42.7m) fee plus €5m (£4.2m) add-ons. Structure of add-ons being discussed then… done deal. It’s imminent, as expected.”

As widely reported, personal terms are not expected to be a problem and there remains a willingness from all parties to get the move done.

Nevertheless, an Italian journalist has claimed Onana’s transfer to Old Trafford will be bitter-sweet.

According to Matteo Barzaghi, while Onana is “happy” to be linking up with Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, the player is also “sad’ to be leaving Inter just 12 months after having joined.

The Sky Sports Italy journalist said on Friday via FCInter1908: “Today, all eyes are on Andre. He got here at 9:20 am. The fans are, of course, asking him to stay.

“He’s certainly happy to have the chance to join United, where he will also be in for a pay raise. But he’s also a little sad because he’s been feeling very happy in Milano.

“He’s won two trophies here, reached the Champions League final, and he has a great rapport with everyone, the club, the players, the city.”

Barzaghi added that Onana hopes to return to the Serie A club in the “distant future”

The reporter said: “He also hopes to return here in the distant future, who knows what’ll happen.”
