Tottenham Hotspur kicked off their 2024/25 Premier League campaign with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Leicester City on Monday evening.

Having opened the scoring through Pedro Porro, Spurs were in cruise control heading into the half-time interval and perhaps should’ve led by a greater margin.

That came back to bite them as Jamie Vardy equalised just before the hour mark and they never really looked like taking the lead again.

Despite that, Ange Postecoglou was pleased with Dominic Solanke’s debut after his £65m switch from Bournemouth.

The North Londoners have shelled out £126m on five signings so far this summer which has significantly strengthened their squad.

With that said, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were posed with the question of if it was stronger than Chelsea’s…

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher agree Chelsea have a better squad than Tottenham

When asked who has the better squad Tottenham or Chelsea, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher both agreed it was the West Londoners.

“I think Chelsea, just because of the players,” Neville said on Sky Sports.

Carragher replied: “If you put them on paper, they have to. They have 40-odd players. But would they have a togetherness of a connection with the manager like with Postecoglou? I think Spurs will get in there [top four].”

Indeed, the top four race won’t be decided on who’s better on paper as Carragher illuded, too, but there’s certainly scope for Chelsea to finally live up to their true potential under Enzo Maresca’s stewardship.

Maresca is expected to implement a possession-based style, similar to Pep Guardiola’s, and that will certainly suit their midfield trio of Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Romeo Lavia, who all struggled under Mauricio Pochettino.

Gary Neville doesn’t think Tottenham will finish in the top four

Neville admitted that he originally had Spurs in his top four predictions but changed them after the Leicester clash.

“Do you know why I changed? I wasn’t sure earlier on today.

“Tottenham, I hope they finish fourth, I think they play great football but what I would say is that when the subs came on tonight I thought that could be a problem for them in the sense of the strength in depth.

“Chelsea could easily be an absolute mess.”
