The Professional Footballers’ Association have confirmed the six nominees for the 2023/24 Players’ Player of the Year award.

The PFA’s award is widely considered as the most prestigious of the Premier League’s seasonal gongs, voted for exclusively by players.

Manchester City dominate the shortlist with three players, including 2022/23 winner Erling Haaland, who claimed his second Golden Boot in as many seasons at the Etihad Stadium. The Norway international finished last year with 27 goals in 31 Premier League games.

The frontrunner for the award is Phil Foden, who has already claimed the FWA Men’s Footballer of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season awards. He enjoyed his best-ever season in a City shirt, registering 19 goals and eight assists in 35 appearances.

Rodri completes City’s trio of nominees having gone another Premier League season without defeat – their only losses came when the Spaniard was not available for selection.

City were pushed all the way in the title race by Arsenal, who have one nominee to show for their efforts in club captain Martin Odegaard. He came up with eight goals and ten assists across 35 games.

Last August, City sold Cole Palmer to Chelsea for £40m, and he silenced plenty of doubters with a fantastic breakout season at Stamford Bridge. The 22-year-old is up for both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards after tallying 33 goal contributions last term.

The only player on the shortlist who does not play for a traditional ‘big six’ side is Ollie Watkins, who played a starring role as Aston Villa finished fourth and qualified for the UEFA Champions League. England hero Watkins scored 19 goals and added 13 assists for Unai Emery’s side.

The winners of the PFA awards will be announced on August 20.
