Chelsea expect to sign La Liga starlet for €25-26m

It looks increasingly likely that Villarreal are set for another big-money sale – their fourth in the last 12/13 months. Last summer, they parted ways with Nicolas Jackson, Pau Torres and Samuel Chukwueze, and now it appears that Filip Jorgensen could also be leaving.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Chelsea had submitted a €20m offer for Filip Jorgensen, who is well-liked by their new manager, Enzo Maresca. That bid is likely to be rejected, but as Fabrizio Romano has told The Daily Briefing, that will not deter the Premier League giants.

“Jorgensen has a release clause of €45m, but Chelsea offered €20m, and they have a feeling internally that a deal could be done for something like €25-26m. Negotiations are ongoing, but the feeling is positive as Jorgensen already agreed on personal terms with Chelsea – salary, length of contract, everything is okay.

“It’s a work in progress, but Chelsea have entered the race strongly. The deal looks likely, and I’d expect Jorgensen to compete with Robert Sanchez for the number one spot. Ultimately it will be up to Maresca so we’ll have to see, but we know he values goalkeepers with good distribution like Jorgensen.”

If Jorgensen does depart, Villarreal will need to find another goalkeeper. It’s likely that they will seek a player to compete with Diego Conde, who joined from Leganes earlier in the summer – he would be in possession of the starting spot if Jorgensen’s sale is confirmed.
