The reasons why Leny Yoro chose Manchester United over Real Madrid

Real Madrid are re-evaluating their summer plans, after their top remaining target, Leny Yoro, informed them that he would be signing for Manchester United. The 18-year-old surprised Los Blancos, and a move to the Premier League is expected to be completed imminently.

The Spanish and European champions were convinced they had convinced Yoro to sign for them, and that he would turn down other offers to force a move to Madrid. Their intention was to sign Yoro on the cheap, given he is out of contract next summer, and felt they could force Lille to do a deal for less than €30m, as was their offer, knowing Yoro would turn down Manchester United.

The latter had an offer of €50m plus €10m accepted, and from there, Marca cite two key reasons for Yoro’s decision. The first was money, with Yoro set to earn far more at Old Trafford than he would at the Santiago Bernabeu. The second is the pressure applied by Lille. The Madrid-based daily question Yoro’s determination to sign for Los Blancos, and say he caved under the pressure of threats from Lille, who were willing to send him to the stands for a year.

Other reports say that Yoro will be given a five-year deal and a yearly salary of around €9m per year. At just 18 years of age, Yoro will be able to set himself up for life, although he would not have been poor at the Bernabeu either. It is also worth noting that Yoro would begin life in Spain as fourth-choice, behind Antonio Rudiger, Eder Militao and David Alaba, whereas he will back himself to win a starting spot under Erik ten Hag.
