Barcelona are determined to sign a new left winger this summer, and sporting director Deco is leading the search for the ideal candidate. Nico Williams has long been on the Catalan giants’ watchlist, but for now at least, he does not appear to be the preferred candidate, which is good news for Athletic Club.
According to Sport, Deco is prioritising a move for Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, as he believes that Williams is destined for a move to the Premier League. The Colombian, who will be in action at this summer’s Copa America, resonates with Deco because of the pair’s shared connection with Porto, whom they both played for.
Diaz had a difficult 2023-24 season with Liverpool, and he was often panned for his disappointing end product, which Barcelona could be concerned about. Furthermore, he would not come cheaply, as the Premier League giants are under no pressure to sell – although that’s not to say that they won’t consider a deal.
