In recent years, many clubs from across Europe have focused more on the South American market, where there is an abundance of young talents breaking through. La Liga clubs have especially explored this, notably with Real Madrid and Barcelona, although Atletico Madrid are now keeping an eye.
One player that has caught their attention is Corinthians’ Wesley Gassova. According to Goal Brasil (via MD), Atleti made an official approach to find out the details of a possible deal for the 19-year-old, who predominantly plays as a left winger.
However, their interest has gone no further than this, as they found out that Corinthians would demand at least €30m for any deal to take place. Real Betis took a similar approach to Atleti, but they also baulked at the figure.
Atletico Madrid are willing to spend big money this summer, but a player like Wesley is not high on their priority list. Defenders and a new striker are their targets ahead of the transfer window opening next month.
