“It’s good for Barcelona” – Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti on Xavi Hernandez sacking

The Barcelona managerial situation continues to be a hot topic in Spanish football, with Xavi Hernandez’s sacking having been made official earlier this week. Hansi Flick has arrived as his replacement, which the Catalans hope will be the start of a new and exciting era at the club.

Many people have given their view on the matter, and the latest to do so is Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian spoke to El Chiringuito (via Diario AS) on Barcelona’s decision, and he admits to having some sympathy for Xavi.

“It’s part of the job of being a coach. I think Xavi will be a bit annoyed by what has happened, because I think it’s the first time he’s been sacked, but with time I think he’ll understand it as being part of the job. When there is no good relationship between the club and the coach, the best thing to do is to part ways.

“It’s happened to me many times – it happened to me at Napoli, Bayern Munich, Chelsea… It’s better to separate, and I think it’s good for Xavi and also for Barcelona maybe.”

It’ll be known in the long run whether it was the right decision for Barcelona to sack Xavi, although many did feel that the 44-year-old’s tenure should have ended when it did, albeit perhaps not in those circumstances.
