A manager Sir Alex Ferguson once called “great” is now keen to replace Vincent Kompany at Burnley.

Bayern Munich have just announced one of the more surprising football decisions of 2024 so far, after deciding to hire the Belgian as a replacement for Thomas Tuchel – despite his Burnley side finishing 19th in the Premier League last season.

Now – as the Clarets aim to bounce back into the Premier League – an Englishman wants to replace Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor…

Scott Parker wants to replace Vincent Kompany at Burnley

A story from The Athletic now claims that Scott Parker is keen to fill the vacancy at Burnley.

The 43-year-old has been out of work since receiving his P45 at Club Brugge back in March 2023, where he moved after Bournemouth decided to sack him in August 2022.

Now – however – Parker is ready to return to English football, and wants to manage Burnley.

The Athletic believe the man from Lambeth is being considered by the Clarets, as he boasts two promotions from the Championship on his CV, after previously guiding Fulham and Bournemouth to the Premier League.

As aforesaid, arguably the greatest manager in history – Ferguson – has praised Parker before.

Speaking to Sport Bible in 2021, the 82-year-old said: “I think the boy Parker at Fulham has done a great job. I’ve watched them a lot and they keep playing their football.

“They don’t change and don’t panic. They stick with the beliefs of their manager and I think that’s a great indication of how good he is.”

Parker has overseen 80 wins from his 197 games in football management – drawing 48 while losing 69.

Clarets have other options

Parker is not the only manager mentioned by The Athletic – although he is the only one described as being keen on the job.

It is said that Burnley are also considering moves to hire Carlos Corberan of West Brom or Marti Cifuentes of QPR, while Liam Rosenior – recently sacked by Hull – is another option.

Furthermore, the Clarets also admire Coventry’s Mark Robins and Danny Rohl of Sheffield Wednesday.

Clearly, Burnley have already assembled a decent shortlist of options to replace Kompany – only time will tell who gets handed the reins.
