A side in the Championship are now keen to sign an Arsenal youngster on loan following his incredibly impressive campaign.

It was clearly the intention of both Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar to make the most of opportunities in the loan market last season.

The club sent several senior players out on loan, including Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Kieran Tierney.

Perhaps Tavares didn’t further his reputation at Nottingham Forest during his 12 appearances, but Lokonga certainly did at Luton Town.

Lokonga was a crucial player for Rob Edwards’ side when fit, making an big impact in his 19 games – a season that was still blighted by injury.

And although that form is unlikely to lead to an Arsenal stay, Lokonga has surely caught the attention of several clubs.

Of course, a few Arsenal youngsters also left the club on loan, including red-hot striker Mika Biereth.

The 21-year-old is certainly on the older end of being considered a ‘youngster’, but has only just properly enjoyed his breakthrough campaign as a senior player.

And having scored 15-goals during various loans in the 2023/24 season, Biereth is now wanted by a Championship club.

Sheffield Wednesday keen to sign Mika Biereth on loan after failing with January attempt

According to local outlet The Star, Sheffield Wednesday are seriously interested in giving Biereth an opportunity to continue this goal-scoring in the Championship next season.

Biereth’s upsurge in form last year was quite ‘unbelievable’, and bodes confidence that he can succeed in England.

As mentioned, Sheffield Wednesday attempted to sign Biereth on loan last January, and were even confident that the deal was almost done at one stage.

But Arsenal ultimately preferred to send the Danish youth international on loan to Austria with Sturm Graz – a decision that paid dividends given Biereth scored nine and assisted four goals in his 22 games.

Three of those goals came in the Europa Conference League too, with Biereth netting away to LOSC Lille in France.

In truth, it still seems very unlikely that Biereth will have a future for the Arsenal senior side despite all his goalscoring, the step up is simply too big.

But it certainly wouldn’t do the London-born striker any harm to further his reputation in England, if he can impact the Championship in a similar vein to his loans last season.

All that being said, Arsenal are now set for talks with a player who out-shone Kylian Mbappe in one aspect last season.
