One Tottenham Hotspur target has shed some light on his future ahead of the summer transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side finished fifth in the Premier League in the 2023/24 campaign. That is not bad for his first season, but he will be really disappointed as the top four was in their hands.

Tottenham need reinforcements this summer to finish higher next season, and one of their transfer targets has made a claim about his future.

Tottenham need new players in multiple areas of their pitch.

Defence will likely be the priority again, but reinforcements in midfield and attack are also expected to be on the agenda when the window opens in June.

One player who has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs for a few months now is Albert Gudmundsson of Genoa.

Spurs have had an eye on the Iceland international since February, and there have been multiple reports about their interest since.

The fact that he is represented by the same agents as Guglielmo Vicario and Radu Dragusin further fueled rumours that Tottenham could sign him.

Gudmundsson, described as a ‘devastating‘ player by Kevin Strootman, claimed recently that he would love to move to the Premier League, a competition he has admired since he was a kid.

However, now, the Genoa attacker has revealed that he has changed his mind.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport’s Sportweek magazine, Gudmundsson said: “If I was to leave Genoa, it would only be for an incredible opportunity.

“As a child, I used to dream of the Premier League, but I’ve changed my mind now. There is a great life here. So soon Genoa and I will sit down at a table and find the best solution for me and for them.”

Gudmundsson may not join Tottenham because of James Maddison

One of Gudmundsson’s best traits is his versatility.

The Iceland international can play on the right wing, as a number nine, second striker and even in attacking midfield. That makes him a very attractive option.

However, in the same interview, Gudmundsson made it clear that he only wants to play as a number 10.

“My favorite position is precisely that of number 10. It is important for me to have the freedom to be able to express my imagination and give vent to my shots,” he said.

Tottenham have James Maddison in the number 10 role, and even though the Englishman didn’t have a great end to the season, he is the first choice there.

That could well be the reason why Gudmundsson decides against a move to Tottenham this summer.
