Manchester United will take on Manchester City this weekend in what many believe might end up being Erik ten Hag’s last game as manager.

Ten Hag’s future remains cloudy going into the FA Cup final and INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have, so far, failed to completely back the Dutchman.

Those murmurings, plus the fact that Mauricio Pochettino is now on the market and Kieran McKenna seems gettable, has only increased the feeling that Ten Hag is treading water.

And adding further fuel to the fire, journalist Alex Crook has now provided an update on the feeling around Ten Hag, with Pochettino’s name once again mentioned.

How Manchester United are feeling about Erik ten Hag ahead of the FA Cup final

Speaking about the situation surrounding Ten Hag, TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook has shared what sources inside the club have been telling him.

“I am told by sources at United that no decision will be made until after this weekend, and even then, not necessarily a knee-jerk reaction,” Crooks said.

“They will look at the scene as a whole, much like Chelsea did with Pochettino, and then decide which direction to go in.

“I just have a nagging suspicion that the fact Pochettino is back on the market now might sway their decision because I think one of the reasons that has been keeping Ten Hag in the job is the lack of obvious candidates to replace him.”

Ten Hag deserves respect with this decision

There’s a lot to weigh up here for both club and manager.

First, if Ten Hag wins the FA Cup against their biggest rivals, then it will be quite the look if INEOS then decide to move on and not build on that momentum.

However, along with that, the season has also been pretty dire and some poor performances cannot be overlooked, despite the injury problems.

For Ten Hag, though, he does at least deserve the respect of knowing what is going on as soon as the decision has been made. At the moment, he is preparing for a big game and probably doing everything right.

But if United are edging towards letting him go, he arguably deserves to know before even leading the team out at Wembley.
