Sam Allardyce has suggested who he would bring in as Manchester United manager to replace Erik ten Hag should he decide to leave his current club.

Heading into the summer, there appears to be a big question mark over the future of Erik ten Hag after just two years at Old Trafford.

A promising first campaign at the helm has not been built upon, with United registering their lowest ever Premier League finish this past season.

They do have an FA Cup final to look forward to, but Rio Ferdinand believes that ten Hag will not be at Manchester United next season – and he will not be the only one.

Sam Allardyce suggests Manchester United need Carlo Ancelotti

Of course, one factor which may help ten Hag is the fact that United need to find a replacement, and INEOS may feel the right person is not available to them right now.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tippy Football podcast, Sam Allardyce suggested that the United hierarchy will have already decided whether ten Hag will be staying, and went on to name the man who should be at the top of their wishlist if a change is made.

“I know who I’d bring in… Ancelotti, if he’s leaving Real Madrid,” he said.

“He would [go to Manchester United]. He went to Everton! He’s the most successful manager, he’s far more successful than Pep.”

Why Italian will not be heading to Old Trafford anytime soon

You would imagine that United fans will not be holding out any hope of Ancelotti taking over anytime soon, particularly with Real Madrid gearing up for another Champions League final. The Italian also signed a contract until 2026 just last year.

But there would hardly be a bigger statement United could make, with Ancelotti – who was left in tears when Casemiro left the Bernabeu – one of the all-time greats. And United fans could have faith that they are bringing someone in with a wealth of experience when it comes to achieving success.

Unfortunately, this season suggests that there is a big question mark over whether ten Hag will ever be the man to end their current league title drought.

And if Ancelotti did become available, you would imagine that many Manchester United fans would not hesitate to push for a change.
