Arsenal are set for a busy summer transfer window.
The Gunners have been linked with a number of new midfield options and a plethora of new strikers, but the north London club’s first signing of the summer should end up being David Raya.
Indeed, the Spaniard joined Arsenal last summer on a loan deal with a £27m option to buy, and that is set to be activated soon. Or is it?
Fabrizio Romano says that Raya is set to sign, but Tony Cascarino isn’t so sure after the goalkeeper’s comments over the weekend.
Indeed, after the end of the season, Raya didn’t sound certain that he’d be staying at Arsenal saying:
“It’s up to the club and Mikel. If my performances have been good enough, hopefully, they will offer me a contract.”
Speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Cascarino spoke about Raya, and he suggested that it’s not 100% certain that Arsenal will sign him permanently.
Tony Cascarino not convinced Raya will sign for Arsenal
Cascarino spoke about Raya and a permanent move to the Emirates.
“He could surprise us and buy another goalkeeper,” The host said.
“The goalkeeper, it looks likely that he will sign, but with the way Raya was talking at the weekend, it’s not 100 %,” Cascarino said.
Mikel Arteta is ruthless
Raya is likely to sign for Arsenal, but it wouldn’t be the biggest shock in the world if the Gunners did send him back to Brentford.
Indeed, Mikel Arteta showed last summer that he can be ruthless with his goalkeepers, and with some mistakes creeping into Raya’s game recently, notably against Tottenham, and Arteta could be cut-throat here.
Of course, in all likelihood, Raya will stay, but don’t be too shocked if Arsenal spring another goalkeeping surprise on us this summer and go for somebody else.
