Cesc Fabregas has issued his verdict on the news that Mauricio Pochettino has now left Chelsea by mutual consent after just one year at Stamford Bridge.

It did appear that Mauricio Pochettino had turned a corner at Chelsea after such a turbulent first season with the club. Of course, he was not a universally popular appointment given his connection to Tottenham Hotspur.

But the Blues have gone down several different paths under their new owners, so it seemed significant that Chelsea did improve so much in the second-half of the campaign.

Chelsea won their final five league games this past season, but the news broke on Tuesday that Pochettino would be leaving by mutual consent.

The Chelsea hierarchy have hardly endeared themselves to fans, despite the amount of money they have invested in the transfer market, so it feels like a really big gamble to allow Pochettino to go.

And speaking to Planet Premier League, Cesc Fabregas has issued his verdict on the news after visiting his former club’s training ground last week.

“I just popped in and he welcomed me so much, I stayed one and a half hours in his office talking football, obviously talking to some of the people that I know working at the club, so I was seeing some ex-teammates as well, so it was really fun and I really enjoyed it,” he said.

“To be fair, I didn’t have the feeling that this was going to happen, just looking around and the feel you have around the place, I felt it was nice and easy. So yeah, I was surprised about the decision to be fair.”

Blues already linked with Premier League bosses

A couple of Premier League bosses have already been linked with the post following Pochettino’s departure.

Chelsea reportedly spoke to the representatives of Kieran McKenna as he continues to win admirers with the work he has done with Ipswich.

Meanwhile, it has been suggested that Chelsea are big fans of Eddie Howe. But it is hard to see why the Englishman would choose to leave Newcastle for Stamford Bridge at this current stage.

It appears essential that Chelsea have a clear idea in mind for who should succeed Pochettino, but given their track record, you could understand why their supporters may not be too optimistic right now.
