Newcastle United are one of the Premier League teams interested in signing Xavi Simons this summer, but the Magpies appear to have a big problem in their pursuit of the flying Dutchman.
Newcastle will hope to bounce back from what was a much more difficult campaign for Eddie Howe’s side as they rarely threatened to replicate their top-four finish from the previous year.
Of course, the Magpies are always going to be one team to watch in the transfer window, and many of their fans will be hoping that this summer sees Howe refresh the options in a number of positions.
And it seems that they have some ambitious targets, with Mundo Deportivo now reporting that Newcastle are interested in Xavi Simons.
Newcastle in race to sign Xavi Simons
Simons had an outstanding season on loan at RB Leipzig, scoring 10 goals and providing 15 assists across the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Paris Saint-Germain have informed Simons’ agent that he is in Luis Enrique’s plans for next season.
However, there is also interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, while Bayer Leverkusen could join the race.
The problem facing all of his admirers however, is that Simons dreams of returning to Barcelona where he spent nearly a decade as a youth team player.
Magpies could boast lethal combination next season with key player set to hand Eddie Howe a big boost
Signing Simons would be a huge statement from Newcastle. He can play on either wing, and would have the potential to be a devastating option to play around Alexander Isak.
Newcastle are apparently confident of agreeing a new contract with Isak, so it would be hugely exciting if they could land the Dutchman as well.
Simons will apparently cost £52 million this summer, but that could prove to be a steal given that he does appear to have ‘amazing‘ potential.
However, his admirers clearly have their work cut out if they are going to get a deal done with PSG keen to keep him, and the player himself hoping for a return to Catalonia.
