German journalist Florian Plettenberg has now shared an update regarding the chances of Hansi Flick becoming the new Chelsea manager.

Yesterday’s announcement was a shock for all associated with Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino had been showing strong signs of improvement.

Chelsea made a late surge up the table, and probably felt as if the end of the season came at an unfortunate time.

That being said, Chelsea’s co-owners were not happy with Pochettino’s criticism of how the club was run and felt they could not move forward with someone questioning them in the long-term.

As has been the case in west London over the last few years, Chelsea didn’t hesitate, and Todd Boehly will once again be looking for a new manager.

Chelsea are thought to want to make a swift appointment, which explains why several candidates are already being strongly linked with the job.

Roberto De Zerbi and Kieran McKenna seem two obvious options, perhaps along with Brentford’s Thomas Frank.

Currently without a job, 59-year-old Hansi Flick has been mentioned as a possible appointment for Chelsea.

The German is also strongly linked with the Barcelona job should Xavi Hernandez depart in the coming weeks.

That being said, journalist Florian Plettenberg has now shared an update on X regarding the possibility of Hansi Flick replacing Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.

Plettenberg was clear in his update that Flick will not become the London club’s new manager because his interest remains elsewhere.

He said: “Been told from the coach’s circle that Hansi Flick will not become the new coach of Chelsea. The 59 y/o is focused on other projects.”

Perhaps that will be considered a shame by some, a calibre of manager who would be well suited to succeeding in the Premier League.

In truth, a lot of Chelsea fans are probably just exasperated to be in this position again, searching for a new boss.

Pochettino’s style does feel slightly outdated in today’s game, but he was a manager who could steady the ship at Chelsea, preparing the club for more success.

And should Boehly and his team decide to go for either De Zerbi or McKenna it will be a risk, but perhaps it is a roll of the dice they are willing to make.

All that being said, it seems as if Chelsea could rival Manchester United for one candidate.
