Chelsea have now spoken with the representatives of one manager as they continue to keep their options open on the future of Mauricio Pochettino.

The Blues will not be too disappointed to see the back of this season, but Chelsea could yet finish as high as fifth in the Premier League.

There have been times when, from the outside, it has appeared that Mauricio Pochettino may have been on the brink at Stamford Bridge, particularly as he was never an overwhelming popular appointment given his connections to Tottenham.

But Pochettino has silenced a lot of his doubters in the second-half of the season. Chelsea’s only league defeats since the opening game in February have come against Manchester City and Arsenal.

Nevertheless, it appears that the Chelsea hierarchy have not yet decided if they are going to hold onto Pochettino, with the Guardian reporting that they have spoken to the representatives of Kieran McKenna.

McKenna has done a ‘phenomenal‘ job with Ipswich Town, leading them to back-to-back promotions. The Tractor Boys will be playing in the Premier League next year after amassing 194 points over two years.

Unsurprisingly, the 38-year-old is attracting interest from elsewhere, with both Manchester United and Brighton admirers of the Northern Irishman.

And if McKenna stays at Portman Road and Ipswich are able to compete in the top-flight next year, you would imagine that there will be plenty of others taking note of his work.

It is a surprise to hear that Pochettino has not done enough to completely convince the Chelsea hierarchy that he deserves another season.

Clearly, the Chelsea project was never going to reap instant rewards, particularly when a number of managers have come and gone with their own ideas.

Scott Minto claimed this week that it would be absolute madness to get rid of Pochettino, but it would appear that Chelsea are giving it some serious consideration.

Perhaps that provides an indication of how highly they rate the job McKenna has done, and how much potential they believe he has.
