The Premier League season is coming to a close, and it’s almost time to name Manager of the Year.
There are a number of contenders for the crown this season. Pep Guardiola looks set to win his fourth league title in a row, Unai Emery has taken Aston Villa into the Champions League, while Andoni Iraola has Bournemouth playing some fantastic stuff.
Speaking on Premier League Productions, Tony Adams has been discussing who he thinks have been the best managers in the Premier League this season, and he says that while Unai Emery has been his Manager of the Season, he’s been very impressed by Mikel Arteta and the job he’s been doing at Arsenal.
Tony Adams praises Mikel Arteta
The former Arsenal captain spoke highly of the Gunners gaffer.
“Pep does well with that group of players and Mikel has improved from last year. I wanted to pick, I’m sat here saying he should’ve done that, but he’s done everything right for me this year,” Adams said.
“He’s really improved on last year, the rotation he has done. He went to Man City and got a point 0-0. I was the only one cheering, he put pressure on them, I can’t fault him, but Emery is the man.”
Mikel Arteta has improved
Adams is absolutely right, Arteta has improved massively as a manager this season.
The Spaniard has got a lot better at managing his squad and rotating his players, while he’s way less emotional on the touchline than he was last term.
This time last year, Arteta gave off an air of nervousness as Arsenal chased the Premier League title, but this term, he’s been so secure in what he’s doing, and the results have followed.
Arsenal may well fall short in the title race, but Arteta has still done a remarkable job this season.
