Liverpool have announced that Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara will leave the club in the summer.

The Reds confirmed the exit of the two players in a statement on Friday.

Matip will depart the Reds upon the expiry of his contract at the end of this season.

Matip final game for Liverpool came in December due to an unfortunate anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Signed in 2016, Matip made 201 appearances and lifted a host of major honours while at Anfield, including the Champions League in 2019 and Premier League a year later.

Alcantara arrived on Merseyside in September 2020 fresh from helping Bayern Munich win the Champions League.

His highlights included a simply stunning daisy-cutter in front of the Kop versus FC Porto in the Champions League and then one of the best midfield displays in Anfield’s recent history in a 4-0 routing of Manchester United.

There were tears at Wembley in February 2022 when an injury in the warm-up denied him the chance to appear in the Carabao Cup final versus Chelsea.

But a few months later, he was back at the same venue against the same opposition to help Liverpool emerge victorious in the FA Cup’s showpiece, scoring in the 6-5 penalty shootout success.
