Scott Minto has suggested that Chelsea would be absolutely mad to get rid of one person over the summer, insisting that he would like to see him now get a new contract.

It has definitely been another turbulent season for the Blues, but it would appear that brighter times may lie ahead at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea winning their last four Premier League games.

Mauricio Pochettino‘s side actually go into the final day of the campaign with an opportunity to finish fifth in the table. And their only defeats in their last 14 league games came against Manchester City and Arsenal.

Chelsea remain a work in progress, but it definitely appears that their young squad is starting to click and show real potential. And with that, Scott Minto believes that it is imperative that they keep one figure for next season.

Scott Minto wants Chelsea to hand Mauricio

Speaking on the Premier League All Access podcast, Minto suggested that Pochettino has done enough to ensure that he remains at the helm for the foreseeable future.

“This was another really good win for Pochettino. You talk about managers and are they going to be around next season, I think, after what happened with the new owners coming in, the amount of money being spent, the philosophy they’ve done, how backwards they’ve gone considering Chelsea was all about the here and now, and nothing about the future, and they’ve gone for a complete turnaround, if they were to get rid of Pochettino now, then I think that would be absolute madness,” he said.

“And they need to come out, we talk about support from the board, they need to come out now and I’m sure they will after the Bournemouth game, because they just want to make sure that they do finish sixth, not long ago, you’re thinking that’s a million miles away, it really is, a European place, but I think they have to come out and say he’s going to be here.

“Whether they extend his contract, I would like to see that being done because from a player’s point of view, if you’re looking to bring players in on a four-year contract and you know the manager’s only there for one year, you’re thinking, ‘well, is he going to be supported?’”

A huge risk to make a change

Certainly, it would be a massive gamble for Chelsea to get rid of Pochettino over the coming months given what they have been through over the season.

The likes of Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter struggled previously, and Pochettino seemed to have many of the same problems during the early stages of his tenure.

But there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel, and Pochettino has surely done enough to get the chance to continue to lead the side as they presumably continue to improve.

Ultimately, it would be a huge risk to go back to the drawing board now that the side has turned a corner under Pochettino.
